The GSP 9700 extends far beyond the traditional functions of a wheel balancer and “road tests” the wheel before it’s on the vehicle to eliminate vibration problems and comebacks. Hunter’s exclusive Road Force Measurement™ System utilizes a “road roller” to measure uniformity of the wheel and tire, simulating a road force test and verifying if the assembly is “round when rolling.”

The GSP 9700 will automatically diagnose any vibration problems and provides easy-to-follow instructions on how to solve them – all without performing any extra steps or taking the wheel off the balancer. Now the service dealer can locate and eliminate virtually every cause of vibration relating to the tire and rim and offer customers 100% quality control.

The GSP 9700 utilizes an exclusive “road roller” that applies up to 700 pounds (318 kg) against the tire assembly to detect non-balance related vibration.

The GSP 9700 uniquely identifies and locates:

1. Tire uniformity problems caused by stiffer or weaker areas of the tire under load.

Tire uniformity is the amount of change in stiffness of the sidewall and footprint when load is placed against the tire. This is one cause of excessive radial force variation.

2. Tire and/or rim runout.

Hunter’s Road Force Measuring System simulates a road test to identify any vibration problems.

3. Excessive balancer mounting error.

If the Road Force Measuring System detects a radial force variation problem, it will prompt the user to measure rim runout.

4. Improper bead seating of tire to rim.

The GSP9700 then calculates the contribution of the tire to the problem and presents clear instruction on how to proceed.

1. Measures Tire Uniformity

The Road Force Measurement System quickly identifies radial force vibration previously measured only by industrial “tire uniformity graders” costing hundreds of thousands of dollars.

2. Measures Lateral and Radial Rim Runout
The GSP 9700 measures lateral and radial rim runout without removing the tire from the rim and quickly indicates if runout is tire related. Runout can also be measured at the actual bead seat on a bare rim.

This feature eliminates time-consuming measurement of runout using dial indicators or “eyeballing” it after the customer returns with a complaint.

3. Detects Balancer Mounting Error

Mounting error can occur on any balancer; however, the GSP 9700 detects and automatically alerts the operator to excessive mounting error. This provides a more consistent balance and minimizes comebacks.

4. Aids Bead Seating

• When mounting and inflating new tires, the tire bead may not reach its optimum seat on the rim due to rusted steel rims, lack of lubrication during mounting, or difficult mounting of low-profile tires.
• In some cases, the GSP 9700 load roller produces enough force to seat the tire bead properly without road testing before balancing.

Solves Hidden Vibration Problems With OEM-Matching

The GSP 9700 OEM-Matching procedure duplicates the tire force variation measurement and rim runout low-spot matching method used exclusively by vehicle manufacturers to provide that “new car ride.” The OEM-Matching procedure cancels tire force variation with rim runout. (This is not the same as balancer “matching” that merely minimizes weights required.)

The GSP 9700 indicates if the assembly can be OEM-Matched or if the tire or rim is out of spec and needs to be replaced.

Tires with marginal force variation can even be matched to other rims at a later date. (Exclusive Match Code feature)
